Extreme Scaffolding, a scaffolding and access contractor based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, is looking for a commercially minded Commercial Estimator to lead its front-end operations, owning the pipeline from first enquiry through to secured contract. The role pays £40,000 to £55,000 a year, with a higher package negotiable for the right individual with a proven track record in the sector.

The role is split roughly 60 per cent technical estimating and 40 per cent commercial growth: digital take-offs, full cost breakdowns, structural compliance to TG20 and SG4, and material schedules on one side; client consultations, site walk-throughs, post-tender follow-ups and securing new main contractor frameworks on the other.

Requirements

  • Proven background in structural scaffolding estimation within the UK construction market
  • Strong technical understanding of scaffolding design, TG20 guidelines and SG4 safety standards
  • Confident communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to negotiate and close commercial deals

MR Scaffolding Services, the family-run Croydon contractor founded in 1974, is hiring a Yard Black Hat with specialist knowledge of Ring System scaffolding to help run its yard in Surrey. It is a hands-on supervisory role reporting to the Logistics Manager, leading the yard team and making sure materials go out checked, correct and on time.

The role

  • Supervise yard operatives, allocate daily tasks and keep deliveries and collections on schedule
  • Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks on work plans, safety and changes
  • Monitor safe working, PPE, manual handling, housekeeping and vehicle and pedestrian movements, and step in where work is unsafe
  • Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and equipment defects
  • Support the induction, training and development of yard operatives
  • Work with the Operations and Transport teams to prepare materials against load lists and sort out shortages before dispatch
  • Oversee and help with loading and unloading, by hand or with authorised lifting equipment, making sure loads are checked and secured
  • Sort, pick, count and store materials, check returns and segregate damaged or defective equipment
  • Keep accurate stock and movement records and support stock checks
  • Identify Ring System components, prepare and check Ring System orders against load lists and drawings, and advise colleagues on components and availability

Requirements

  • At least three years in a scaffold yard, with previous Black Hat, team leader or supervisory experience
  • Proven experience with Ring System equipment, particularly Allround, including component identification, order preparation and stock management
  • Valid counterbalance and telescopic forklift qualifications (essential)
  • Confident leading a team and keeping safe working standards
  • Good spoken and written communication, organised, reliable and good with detail
  • Willing to take on company training and awareness courses

M R Scaffolding Services Ltd is looking for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to manage the financial and contractual side of its scaffolding and access projects, based at the London office with travel to project sites.

With more than 50 years of experience, M R is an established family business delivering scaffolding solutions across construction and infrastructure projects. The role works closely with the Estimating, Contracts, Operations, Design and Finance teams, supporting projects from contract award through to final account.

The role

You will manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring work is accurately valued, costs are controlled and contractual changes are identified and recovered promptly. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and submitting applications for payment and interim valuations
  • Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations, including scaffold alterations, additional works and extended hire periods
  • Monitoring project costs, budgets and margins, and preparing accurate commercial reports and forecasts
  • Reviewing contract terms, tender handovers and project scope to identify commercial risks
  • Working with Contracts Managers and site teams to record progress, dayworks, instructions and programme changes
  • Attending site visits and client meetings to agree valuations and resolve commercial queries
  • Preparing, negotiating and agreeing final accounts
  • Supporting estimating and tender reviews with practical commercial input
  • Working with Finance to resolve payment queries and support timely collection of outstanding sums

About you

M R is looking for someone who can build effective working relationships, manage competing deadlines and take ownership of project accounts. You will ideally have:

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or in a comparable commercial role within a specialist construction contractor
  • Scaffolding or temporary works experience, with an understanding of erection, dismantling, measurement and hire arrangements
  • Experience managing valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts
  • Knowledge of construction subcontract terms and common UK contract forms
  • Strong Excel, numerical and organisational skills
  • Clear communication and confident negotiation skills
  • A relevant quantity surveying qualification or equivalent industry experience

A full UK driving licence is desirable for travel to project sites.
