MR Scaffolding Services, the family-run Croydon contractor founded in 1974, is hiring a Yard Black Hat with specialist knowledge of Ring System scaffolding to help run its yard in Surrey. It is a hands-on supervisory role reporting to the Logistics Manager, leading the yard team and making sure materials go out checked, correct and on time.

The role

• Supervise yard operatives, allocate daily tasks and keep deliveries and collections on schedule
• Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks on work plans, safety and changes
• Monitor safe working, PPE, manual handling, housekeeping and vehicle and pedestrian movements, and step in where work is unsafe
• Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and equipment defects
• Support the induction, training and development of yard operatives
• Work with the Operations and Transport teams to prepare materials against load lists and sort out shortages before dispatch
• Oversee and help with loading and unloading, by hand or with authorised lifting equipment, making sure loads are checked and secured
• Sort, pick, count and store materials, check returns and segregate damaged or defective equipment
• Keep accurate stock and movement records and support stock checks
• Identify Ring System components, prepare and check Ring System orders against load lists and drawings, and advise colleagues on components and availability

Requirements

• At least three years in a scaffold yard, with previous Black Hat, team leader or supervisory experience
• Proven experience with Ring System equipment, particularly Allround, including component identification, order preparation and stock management
• Valid counterbalance and telescopic forklift qualifications (essential)
• Confident leading a team and keeping safe working standards
• Good spoken and written communication, organised, reliable and good with detail
• Willing to take on company training and awareness courses
