Job Description

We are looking for an individual who can multi task and is willing to get on the tools when needed but predominantly taking full responsibility as Operations Manager to oversee the successful delivery of projects across multiple sites in Somerset. The role will be approximately a 50/50 split. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for ensuring that all builds are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards of quality and service.

Acorn is an established Scaffolding Company who works closely with many of the counties construction companies, with varied sites / contracts from commercial to residential as well as a strong presence in the education sector.

Due to an expanding pipeline of work, we are looking to strengthen our team with a high-calibre Scaffolding / Contracts Manager manager who shares our commitment to performance and safety.

Reporting to the Managing Director, with support from the Office Manager you will take full responsibility for managing labour, performance and customer satisfaction. You will work closely with the Office Manager, contribute to recruitment and training, and play a pivotal role in delivering on commercial and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day contract operations across multiple project sites
  • Allocate and manage labour, forecasting needs and addressing shortfalls
  • View and price jobs in line with commercial targets
  • Manage scaffold inspections, handovers, and compliance with TG20:21, SG4:22, and bespoke designs
  • Ensure health & safety protocols are followed, including site inductions, RAMS, TBTs, and regular inspections

Requirements

  • Experience in managing both Scaffolders and Clients
  • Strong leadership, planning, and conflict resolution skills
  • A proactive, hands-on manager with a passion for high standards
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Advanced Scaffolder or at least 10 years experience as a Charge Hand (Training for Advanced will be provided)
  • SSSTS/SMSTS (or equivalent)
  • Competent with PC skills – preferred
  • Knowledge of scaffold operations, design, and NASC guidance

All or any combination of the above is preferred but training will be provided where required.
